The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) conducts the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) annually from January to April. This exam is the gateway for admission to BTech programs at VIT-Vellore, VIT-Chennai, VIT-AP (Amaravati), and VIT-Bhopal. Approximately 19 to 30 lakh candidates are eligible to appear for VITEEE.
The results of the examination are typically announced in multiple phases:
- May 3, May 7, and May 8: Results for ranks 1 to 20,000
- May 18 and May 19: Results for ranks 20,001 to 45,000
- May 29 and May 30: Results for ranks 45,001 to 70,000

Additionally, winners (one male and one female) from rural districts of Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, who secure the highest marks in government school board exams, are entitled to a 100% tuition fee waiver and exemption from room and board charges under the STARS program (Supporting the Development of Rural Students).
